Mohammad Safiq Rahim (born 5 July 1987) is a Malaysian footballer who is currently playing for Malaysia Super League club, Johor Darul Takzim and Malaysia national team as a midfielder. Safiq started his career with Selangor before moving to KL PLUS. Safiq returned to Selangor in 2010 helping them to win the 2010 Super League and the 2010 Malaysia Charity Shield. Before the start of 2013 season, Safiq moved to Johor Darul Takzim.

Safiq has made over 50 appearances for the Malaysia national team, scoring fourteen goals. He is also a former captain of the national team. Safiq was the topscorer of 2014 AFF Championship with six goals.

 

Club career

Selangor FA

Safiq began his career for Selangor in the Selangor FA President's Cup. He was the captain and was one of the key players for the team. Safiq was later promoted to the Senior team

KL Plus

Safiq left Selangor in 2009 and joined KL Plus. Safiq managed 7 appearances and scored 5 goals. He was also the team vice captain, with NorHafiz Zamani Misbah the team captain. Safiq left KL Plus after only playing for one season.

Return to Selangor FA

Safiq rejoined Selangor in 2010. He was made captain in early 2011 after captain, Mohd Amri Yahyah was injured for half of the season. Safiq was part of the Selangor team that won the 2010 Super League and the 2010 Malaysia Charity Shield. On 30 June 2011, Indonesian club, Persib Bandung announced that they would give him a contract for the 2011–12 Indonesia Super League season. Safiq later chose not to join Persib Bandung. On August 2011 after the 2011 Malaysia Cup, Safiq was given a three-week trial from the Welsh club, Cardiff City FC with the help from the Cardiff owner, Datuk Chan Tien Ghee. Malaysian striker, Mohd Safee Mohd Sali was also given a trial by Chan Tien. Safiq officially underwent his 3-week trial on 24 November 2011 and ended on 11 December 2011.

Johor Darul Takzim FC

Safiq joined Johor DT for the 2013 season. He made his debut and scored in the opening match of 2013 Malaysia Super League against Pahang.

International career

Safiq has represented Malaysia since 2005. He earned his first full international cap against Myanmar in the 2007 ASEAN Football Championship. Since then he only made appearances with the under-23 national team. He scored his first international senior goal in an unofficial friendly match against Zimbabwe on 12 July 2009.

He was a member of the Malaysian squad that won the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup. It was the first time in history that Malaysia won the AFF Suzuki Cup title. On 13 and 16 July 2011, Safiq captained the Malaysia XI in their matches against Arsenal FC and Liverpool F.C.. Malaysia XI lost 0–4 against Arsenal. Just before the stroke of half time against Liverpool, with Malaysia trailing 0–1, Safiq scored from a free-kick to equalise for Malaysia. Despite a spirited comeback, Malaysia XI went on to lose 3–6 i to Liverpool. He scored two goals from free kick against Singapore on 8 and 12 June consecutively. He scored another goal, again from a free kick against Hong Kong. On 28 November, he scored the opening goal in a match against Laos in the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup. Safiq was named in the Malaysia squad for 2014 AFF Championship. In the second match, Safiq scored a goal against Thailand but Malaysia would then go on to lose the match. In the final group stage match against Singapore, Safiq's combative display and enterprise shone through and he was statistically the player with the most passes and touches on the ball. His best trait though is not in his cultured right foot, but in his mind, when he calmly converted the penalty in the Lion's den amidst the jeers and mocking by the partisan crowd helping Malaysia to progress to knockout stage. In the first leg semi final match against Vietnam, Safiq converted another penalty but Malaysia lost 1-2. In the second leg, Safiq scored the opening goal after Malaysia received a penalty kick in the 4th minutes. In the second leg of the 2014 AFF Championship final, Safiq scored another penalty in the 7th minutes. He then scored his sixth goal of the tournament, a free kick but two late goals from Thailand resulted in Malaysia losing 3-4 on aggregate. With his 6 goal haul, Safiq became the first midfielder in the tournament’s 18-year history to have picked up the Golden Boot award.

Bambang Pamungkas (born 10 June 1980), also known as Bepe, is an Indonesian professional footballer who plays for Persija Jakarta in the Indonesia Super League and previously the Indonesia national football team. His natural position is striker. Bambang made his name in South East Asian football when he scored the only goal for Indonesia at the 2002 Tiger Cup semifinal against Malaysia, and was the tournament's top scorer with eight goals. Bambang is considered to be an outstanding header of the ball, and has a reputation for sharpness in the penalty box. He earned 85 caps and 37 goals with the Indonesia national team, and is perhaps the team's most popular player among its supporters. He is considered as one of top ten Asian players of 2012 by ESPN Soccernet.

 

Club career

Bambang played for several clubs around his hometown as a youth, before beginning his senior career with Persija Jakarta. He was the club's top goal scorer in 1999–2000 Liga Indonesia with 24 goals. In 2000, he joined EHC Norad in the Dutch Third Division. But after only 4 months he returned to Persija, the only Indonesian club he ever played for.

Bambang helped his club to win the Liga Indonesia in 2001, and he was awarded the accolade of that season's best player. Persija Jakarta narrowly missed out on winning the championship again in 2004 by one point. The following season Persija reached the 2005 final, but lost 2–3 to Persipura Jayapura. Shortly afterwards Bambang accepted an offer to play in the Malaysian Football League with Selangor FA, along with national team-mate Elie Aiboy. In his first season in Malaysia he won the Premier League Malaysia, FA Cup Malaysia, and Malaysia Cup, and became the league's top-scorer with 23 goals in 24 matches. During two seasons in Malaysia he scrored 63 goals in four competitions: Malaysia Premier League, Malaysia Super League, FA Cup Malaysia, Malaysia Cup, AFC Cup. Despite having scored a total of 158 goals in Liga Indonesia, like Singaporean forward Indra Sahdan Daud, Bambang lost his place in the nation team to foreign-born talent.

In 2008, English club Derby County was interested him. In 2010 he had a trial at New Zealand club Wellington Phoenix FC, but failed to secure a contract. On 9 December 2013, he signed a one-year contract with Pelita Bandung Raya. On 3 December 2014, he moved back to Persija Jakarta.

International career

In 1998 Bambang's international career began when he was selected to play for the Indonesian youth team; his tally of seven goals in the Asian Cup U-19 Group V made him the competition's top scorer. He made his senior international debut the following year in a friendly match against Lithuania, in which he scored one goal. His total of 37 goals for his country make him the national team's highest-ever goal scorer.

Bambang has taken part in four FIFA World Cup qualification campaigns (2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014), playing in 14 matches and scoring 3 times. Bambang has also been involved in three AFC Asian Cups: 2000, 2004 and 2007. He scored a goal against Bahrain in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, in a match Indonesia won 2–1. In the 2002 Tiger Cup, Bambang was the top scorer with 8 goals, but an injury ruled him out of the Indonesian squad for the 2004 event. He scored twice in the 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup, once against Myanmar and once against Cambodia. In 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup Bambang scored two goals in a match against Thailand, both from penalty kicks. He has scored a total of 12 goals in the ASEAN Football Championship, making him the 5th-highest goal scorer in ASEAN Football Championship history.

Mohd Safee Mohd Sali (born 29 January 1984 in Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia) is a Malaysian footballer who plays for Johor Darul Takzim and the Malaysia national football team. Safee plays as a forward or attacking midfielder.

In 2011, Safee become the first Malaysian footballer to play at the Indonesia Super League with Pelita Jaya FC. Safee previously played for Melaka TMFC, Kuala Lumpur FA, Sarawak FA, Selangor FA, Pelita Jaya FC and Arema Cronous.

Safee represents the Malaysia national team at the international level and was a member of the Malaysian team who won the 2010 AFF Championship for the first time with Safee being the top scorer. Safee is the only Malaysian footballer to scored in four consecutive AFF Championship tournament and is currently Malaysia's all-time leading goalscorer at the tournament with nine goals.

Youth team

Safee started representing Malaysia Under-23 during the 2004 Olympic Games qualifiers. He played all the qualification matches but mostly played as the substitute. He was then selected to represent Malaysia Under-23 at the 2005 Pre-South East Asian Games in Thailand under the then-coach Bertalan Bicskei. He managed to score only one goal in the tournament against the Philippines Under-23. He however did not make it into 2005 South East Asian Games squad that won the bronze medal. After the 2005 South East Asian Games, Safee was given a chance by coach Norizan Bakar to represent the Under-23 side for the 2006 Doha Asian Games. He again failed to make it into the squad.

After the national Under-23 sides failure in the 2006 Asian Games, Safee was selected as the main striker by coach B. Sathianathan. Together with striking partner Mohd Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak, they managed to win the 2007 Merdeka Tournament after defeating Myanmar 3–1 in the final and becoming the top scorer with 4 goals. He then was chosen to represent the country in the 2007 South East Asian Games in Thailand. Safee managed to score 2 goals in the tournament but the Under-23 national team failed to advance into the semifinal after a draw against rivals the Singapore.

For 2008, Safee was chosen as the main striker in the 2008 Malaysia Intercontinental Cup. He managed to score all Malaysia's 3 goals in Malaysia's 1–3 defeat to the Republic of Ireland, 1–0 win against the Iraq and an impressive 1–1 draw against the Nigeria. The match against Nigeria was Safee's last game with Malaysia national under-23 team.

In 2010, Safee received called up for the Asian Games squad. He played three matches in Eximbank Cup in Vietnam. He did not chosen as the three senior members for the final squad to the Asian Games.

Senior team

After an impressive season with Sarawak in the Malaysia Premier League, Safee managed to make it into the national team. He was given his first senior caps against New Zealand on 19 February 2006. He then scored his first international goal on his second cap against New Zealand.

He then became the part of the national football team preparing for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. He was then chosen into the squad of Malaysia 2007 Asian Cup. He only made his first appearance in the Asian Cup in the third group match against Iran where Malaysia lost 0–3.

For the 2008 Merdeka Tournament, Safee scored another similar style of goal that was scored earlier during the 2008 Sultan of selangor Cup against the Nepal. He became the top scorer of the tournament with 5 goals despite Malaysia losing 6–5 through penalty kicks against Vietnam in the final.

In November 2010, Safee was called up to the Malaysia national squad by coach K. Rajagopal for the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup. Safee scored twice against Vietnam to secure a 2–0 win in the first leg in the semi finals. Safee again scored another two goals in the first leg of the finals to secure a 3–0 win against Indonesia. On the second leg of the Final, Safee scored another goal to earn 5 goals, thus becoming the tournaments top goal scorer. Malaysia won the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 title for the first time in their history.

On 28 November 2012, Safee netted in his third consecutive AFF Championship tournament, scoring the second goal in Malaysia's 4–1 win over Laos in their second group match. On 29 November 2014, Safee netted in his fourth consecutive AFF Championship tournament, scoring the first goal in Malaysia's 3–1 win over Singapore in their third group match. Other than that, he was invisible throughout the tournament.

Malaysia XI

Safee also represented in the Malaysia XI squad against Arsenal and Liverpool at the Shah Alam Stadium on 29 July 2008. He was one of the impressive Malaysian players on the match. The Malaysia XI eventually lost.

On 16 July 2011, Safee was included in the match against Liverpool in which the Malaysia XI lost 3–6. He came on as a substitute and scored 2 goals.

The right-footed player represented Malaysia for the 2003 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, the FA Premier League Asia Cup 2003 and also in the 2002 Tiger Cup in Thailand, helping Malaysia national football team to a 4th place finish.

He been called up by Malaysia national football team coach Norizan Bakar for the AFC Asian Cup 2007 in July, co-hosting by 4 countries Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia. In the competition, Indra Putra is the only Malaysian player to score a goal, against China, as Malaysia crashed out in the group stages having lost all group games.

Indra Putra also represented the Malaysia XI squad against Chelsea at Shah Alam Stadium on 29 July 2008. The Malaysia XI eventually lost 0–2. However, Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari praise the Malaysia XI for giving a good fight against his team.

He was unexpectedly recalled to Malaysia national team, after a long period of absence, for a match against Indonesia on 14 September 2014 by national coach Dollah Salleh. He entered the match as a substitute, which ends in a 2-0 loss to Malaysia.
